Frequently Asked Questions

1. What should I expect during my first visit?

Part 1 – Virtual Intake (45 min): We’ll review your health history in detail: symptoms, goals, lifestyle, stress, and nutrition, etc. (Schedule this appointment through Booksy “New Client Part 1”.)

Part 2 – In-Person Treatment (55 min): I’ll take your pulses, check your tongue, and perform a physical exam if needed, especially in cases of pain. You’ll receive an acupuncture treatment and rest for ~25 minutes. (Schedule this appointment as an “New Client Part 2” through Booksy.)

This comprehensive approach allows me to accurately identify areas of imbalance and design your personalized treatment plan. This may include herbal formulas, supplements, referrals, and lifestyle recommendations.

2. How can I prepare for my treatment?

  • Eat a light snack before your appointment to ensure steady energy, don’t come on an empty stomach.

  • Wear comfortable clothes that allow easy access to arms, legs, and back. But don’t worry if you are dressed formally, if clothes need to be removed, you’ll be draped respectfully at all times.

  • Take it easy afterward. Avoid intense activities for a couple hours post-treatment, as relaxation effects will linger.

3. Do acupuncture needles hurt?

Needles are ultra-thin (thinner than a cat whisker) with smooth, polished tips designed for comfort. Most clients feel a slight pinch or dull ache during insertion, or nothing at all. Any sensation is mild and well worth the benefits.

4. How many treatments will I need?

This varies based on your health goals, condition severity, and how long it’s been present:

  • Acute pain, fertility preparation, etc.= 1-2/week

  • Chronic illness, seasonal support, an active health goal, etc. = 1/week

  • Maintenance & wellness check-ins, etc.= 1-2/month

Generally, expect at least 4 sessions over a month to notice meaningful change. And 12 sessions in a row is considered a full treatment course classically. But I’ll adjust the frequency as we progress.

5. Is acupuncture safe?

Absolutely. I use only single-use, pre-packaged, sterilized needles and adhere to clean-needle technique and clinical asepsis. COVID‑19 safety protocols remain in effect to protect everyone’s health.

6. Do you accept insurance?

Yes, I bill most major medical insurance plans and HSA/FSA cards directly. You do not have to file claims yourself. Please reach out with your plan details and I’ll verify:

  • If acupuncture is covered

  • How many visits/year are included

  • Your anticipated out-of-pocket costs (deductibles, copays, or coinsurance)

Once confirmed, I’ll handle the electronic billing after each session and let you know if any balance is owed.

7. How does health insurance for acupuncture work?

  1. Coverage Verification: I check your plan and find acupuncture coverage under outpatient or alternative therapy.

  2. Benefit Details: I confirm your deductible, session limits, and copays/coinsurance percentage before your first appointment.

  3. Billing Process: After each session, I submit claims and you’re only responsible for copay or coinsurance percentage that your plan doesn’t cover.

  4. ESAs / FSAs: You can often pay with your Health Savings Account (HSA) or Flexible Spending Account (FSA) if acupuncture is an eligible expense.

9. Do you offer free consultations?

Yes, I offer a free 15-minute phone consultation to answer any questions and help determine whether acupuncture is right for you.

10. Can you treat children or during pregnancy?

Yes! I work with clients across all ages and stages, including children, prenatal, and postpartum care. Treatments and needles are gentle and tailored for each individual. (See specific information under “Services.”)
